Bonding vs. Veneers : Which one is for me?

For chipped or worn down teeth, there are several options available to restore the teeth into flawless smiles. The most popular ones are dental veneers and dental bondings.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding, also known as composite or cosmetic bonding, is a process done in a single session. Bonding is preferred by those who have minor dental flaws such as small gaps between teeth, or minute chips. A viscous material called dental composite is utilized to alter the shape of the teeth, essentially molding it into your desired shape. This material comes in several shades to match the teeth. This bonding process balances the smile, to make it more appealing and attractive. Last-minute adjustments are made as the material starts to set. Once firm, your new smile is ready.

Dental Veneers

Veneers, on the other hand, are thin porcelain-like strips which are shaped to fit your natural teeth. Unlike bonding, which imitates your teeth’s shade, veneer shade can be customized if one aims to cover the entire teeth with it. This is because this creates a secondary layer to protect the veneers. However, veneers are a little harder to maintain due to its delicate nature, which may be a tradeoff due to its aesthetic appeal.

Which one is for me?

Though veneers and bonding are vastly different processes, they both aim to recreate perfect smiles, and to correct imperfect ones. Both processes vary in cost and length, which may play a major role in your preference. In general, bondings are preferred for minor corrections or for small amounts of teeth. This is also a more affordable and faster treatment than the other. Veneers, meanwhile, are recommended for those who wish to have more dramatic and sudden changes, such as for artists, models, or for those who have important business meetings or events.
